The First National Flag

Flag of the Kingdom of Spain	Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto visited the Southeast U.S., including Alabama, in the 1540s.
Flag of Bourbon France	Iberville and Bienville established Fort Louis de la Mobile as the capital of French Louisiana in 1702.
Flag of the British Empire	Great Britain acquired French Louisiana east of the Mississippi as a result of the French and Indian War in 1763. The Louisiana territories west of the Mississippi were ceded to Spain.
Flag of Bourbon Spain	Spanish Governor of Louisiana Bernardo Galvez captured Mobile from the British during the American Revolution.
Flag of the United States	The United States annexed West Florida -- which included Mobile and Baldwin Counties-- from Spain in 1810.
